Pillowcase Bed / Chair

Pillowcase Bed/Chair-This bed/chair is inexpensive and so easy to make. Your little one will love discovering just how many ways it can be used!

It's Friday night.  The smell of popcorn (and enormous amounts of butter) fill the air.  The kiddos are pumped to see the latest Pixar release.  For so many years, I would clear out our upstairs closet of every blanket I could find, creating the best bed possible for our little ones.  After getting everyone situated and comfortable, we would finally start the movie!

The first ten minutes would go off without a hitch...BUT...soon I would hear the inevitable.  "Her feet are too close to me!"  "I can feel her breathing!"  "Stop stealing the blanket!"  "Mom, make him stop!"

Oh yes, how foolish!  Why would I ever think that four little children could peacefully lay so close to each other for an extended period of time?  It was time for INSPIRATIONAL MOMMA!!!  An intervention was needed.

I decided to create a Pillowcase Bed/Chair for each of my children.  This would provide them with a comfy space of their own for our movie nights.  On a quick trip to Wal-Mart, I found pillowcases on clearance for $1.47 each and the pillows were just $2.37 each.  I was able to make a Pillowcase Bed/Chair for just $16.20 each.  I also had four Pillowcase Bed/Chairs made in 40 minutes.  (Not to mention four amazed children.)

These creations are both simple and affordable!  See my easy How-To Instructions below to find out how you can create one for a little peanut in your life!

Materials Needed:
4 standard pillowcases
4 standard pillows
sewing machine and thread too : )

How-To Instructions:
1.  Lay 2 pillowcases on top of each other.  Make sure they are lined up perfectly and both open ends are on the same side.  Pin pillowcases together.  I usually pin them about 1-2 inches from the edge I want to sew.  (see diagram below)
2. Sew along pinned side about 1/4 inch in from the edge.  (see diagram below)
3. Repeat this process with the remaining pillowcases, being sure to keep the seems on the same side, as well as the openings.
4. Insert pillows and enjoy!

    1. If they enjoy them as much as my kiddos, they really will love them! I am continuously amazed at the different uses they find for them. They have become landing pads for jumping off the couch and also make into forts, just to name a couple!

  2. Hi, Tanille - that is such a brilliant idea! I always look for super easy sewing ideas ('cause I am the world's worst) and I just love how you made something so expensive looking for that price!

    1. Thank you so much! As easy and inexpensive as they are, I think many little ones on my Christmas list will be getting one this year. It is also fun to see how many uses my little peanuts can come up with for them!

  3. Not clear, needs more pictures and instructions, even though I can picture it by looking at it. Thanks any how

    1. I do apologize for your confusion. I tried my best to create diagrams that were clear and helpful. If you would have any specific questions that I could help you with, please let me know.

    1. Don't worry about it at all. Hopefully this will help. I have made these two different ways.
Option 1: I start by sewing two pillowcases together as I explained, then add a third and fourth in the same way.
Option 2: I sew two pillowcases together and put them aside. I then sew the other two pillowcases together. Finally, I sew the two sets together, totaling four.

Please just be sure to always keep the sewing seems and the pillow openings on the same sides for a clean looking product.

Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any more questions!

    1. I do leave the ends open for easy cleaning. I have, however, thought about putting Velcro on the open ends to prevent the pillows from sliding out on their own. Let me know how yours turns out : )
