Bible Verses for Stress and Anxiety
Lean and rely on these Bible Verses for Stress and Anxiety. God's Word provides us with guidance, peace, and strength during tough times.
We are currently living through unprecedented times. Yes, there have been other pandemics that have swept across our world, but never at a time when we have been so medically, technologically, and socially advanced. The dramatic effect that Covid-19 is having on EVERYONE is hard to even understand at this point. Sports seasons are cancelled, catching the "new movie" at the theater isn't an option, and meeting friends for lunch just isn't a thing.
But let's dig deeper. Families are forced to drop gravely ill loved ones off at hospital doors, not able to go inside to hold their hands has they take their last breath. Millions...yes I said MILLIONS...of Americans have lost their jobs or have been laid off. My heart breaks when I think about the stress and anxiety that follows that harsh reality. Domestic abuse rates are skyrocketing, alcoholism and drug use are rising like never before, and depression is overwhelming an unimaginable number.
We Are Not in the Same Boat
I have heard many say, "We are all in the same boat." And I agreed with that until recently. I saw a post on Facebook that put everything into perspective for me. It said something like this, "We are NOT all in the same boat! We may be in the same storm, but we are not in the same boat. Some of our boats are still afloat, facing heavy winds, but still riding the waves. Other boats may be slowly taking on water, fighting hard, but facing the inevitable, just waiting for the moment it sinks. Other boats have already fell victim to the storm. They have been broken apart by the large waves and are slowly sinking to the ocean floor."
At any moment in life, there are always "boats" that are sinking, whether it is because of divorce, the loss of a child, or some crazy virus. People in our world are facing so many struggles on a daily basis, we can safely say that the storm is always raging. We just pray that our boat is one that remains steady. And if it does dip below the surface, we have peace and comfort, knowing that God will NEVER leave us, even in the scariest of storms.
Lean On Your One True Source
Sadly, I can't tell you that you will never face challenging times. We will all go through tragic events in our lives, events that will try to break us. And unless we lift our eyes to God, we will fall victim just like the boat sinking to the ocean floor. But the great news is, we can place our eyes on our Almighty Father. He is our Comforter, our Counselor, and our Deliverer.
To help myself when I am struggling, I compiled seven powerful Bible verses for stress and anxiety, all from the Book of Psalms. The promises that are made in these seven verses are just what I need when facing the storms of life. Nowhere in the Bible does it say we won't face struggles. But it does share that if I trust in and rely on God, He will...
- help me
- bring me joy
- watch over me
- be right beside me
- free me from my fears
- rescue me
- will not let me slip and fall
And this is just the tip of the ice berg. The Bible is filled with promises that God has made to those who believe in Him. Here is a PRINTABLE that I would love to share with you! I believe it is so important that we see and say the Word of God often throughout the day. By printing these small cards and placing them in strategic places (your bathroom mirror, your car, your office computer, etc.), you will continuously be reminded that you are not in this storm alone.
You just have to call out to your Father in heaven and truly believe that He will give you peace, comfort, and strength in any situation.
Today's Challenge
In your journal, write down the storms of life you are currently facing. What has you up at night? What fears have overtaken your joy? Then, next to those struggles, right down a few of the promises that God has made you. As hard as it might be, the next time a fear comes to your mind, instead of dwelling on it, recite God's promise and remind yourself that you are NEVER alone.
I pray that no matter what storm of life you are currently in, you are able to give it to God. And I pray that He gives you the peace and comfort that you so desperately need.
When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy. Psalm 94:19
I prayed to the Lord and He answered me, He freed me from all my fears. Psalm 34:4
I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for He is right beside me. Psalm 16:8
Then they cried to the Lord in their troubles, and He rescued them! Psalm 107:13
I was pushed back and about to fall, but the Lord helped me. Psalm 118:13
Give your burdens to the Lord, and He will take care of you. He will not let the Godly slip and fall. Psalm 55:22
He has put His angels in charge of you. They will watch over you wherever you go. Psalm 91:11
