Instructions

It only takes 5 simple steps to make this pie crust.

Step 1: Place flour and salt in a 9-inch pie plate.  Mix together. (If you are in a hurry or don’t feel like taking your time and being neat, you can also mix this together in a bowl.)

Step 2: Add melted butter and water.  Continue mixing until dough forms.  I like to use my hands to combine the ingredients well.  The dough will appear to be a bit dry. Be careful not to add too much water which would result in a harder crust.

Step 3: When dough is uniform, press it into the bottom of your pie plate.  I then form the edges with my fingertips to create a more polished look.

Step 4: Using a fork, poke several holes in the bottom of the crust.

Lard: For an extra rich crust, use lard instead of butter.

Gluten-Free: Use almond flour or another gluten-free flour in place of regular flour.

Tips:

  • Be sure to prick the bottom of your pie crust to prevent bubbling.
  • When measuring your flour, scoop it out with a spoon and pour it into the measuring cup until it's overflowing, then level it off with a knife. This prevents using too much flour.
