1: Beat all the cream cheese filling ingredients until well blended.

2: Cover place a layer of bread slices in the bottom of a baking dish and top with the cream cheese filling layer. Top with the remaining bread slices.

3: Combine the egg custard ingredients in a bowl, then pour the mixture over the bread and cream cheese layers in the baking dish.

Overnight cream cheese stuffed French toast is as easy as it is delicious. It's rich, moist, and loaded with sweet flavors.

Ingredients

  • Filling Ingredients:
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 5 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • French Toast Ingredients:
  • 10 slices of bread of your choice (thick slices work best)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • Streusel Topping Ingredients:
  • ⅔ cup brown sugar
  • ⅓ cup butter, softened
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Prepare your 9x9-inch baking dish by spraying it with cooking spray.
  2. To prepare filling, In a medium mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, sugar, vanilla, egg, and flour. Beat until well blended. Set aside. 
  3. Cover the bottom of your baking dish with a layer of bread.  You may have to cut slices in half to do so.
  4. Spread your filling over top of bread layer.
  5. Place another layer of bread on top of cream cheese filling.
  6. In a large mixing bowl, beat eggs, milk, cream, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. 
  7. Pour egg mixture slowly over bread and cream cheese. Try to coat all of the bread pieces as much as possible. 
  8. Cover pan with aluminum foil and refrigerate overnight. 
  9. When you are ready to bake, remove pan from the fridge and allow it to rest for 30 minutes.
  10. Preheat your oven to 350ºF.  
  11. In a small mixing bowl, combine brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, flour and pecans. Mix with a fork until crumbly and well combined.
  12. Sprinkle streusel topping overtop of chilled bake.
  13. Bake for between 45-60 minutes. A toothpick should come out clean when inserted into the center of the pan. The streusel will also turn golden brown.
  14. Cut into slices and serve.
