Substitutions and Variations

  • Use your favorite chopped candy bars or cookies in place of Reese's.
  • Try layering full-size Reese's Cups in the center of the brownies instead of the mini cups.
  • For more color and chocolate flavor, use M&Ms in this recipe.

Storage

Store these brownies for up to 4 days at room temperature in an air-tight container. For longer storage, wrap the brownies in plastic wrap and freeze them for up to 2 months in an air-tight, freezer-safe container or heavy-duty freezer bag.

What to Serve with Brownies

Serve these brownies with a glass of ice-cold milk or a cup of coffee or tea. They're also delicious with fresh fruit, a dollop of whipped cream on top, or served alongside your other favorite sweet treats as part of a larger dessert table.

Tips for the Best Reese's Brownies

  • Mix your batter until smooth, but stop there. Overmixing can create tough brownies.
  • Lining your baking pan with parchment paper is the easiest way to ensure they don't stick and makes removal simple.
  • Be sure to let your brownies cool completely before slicing them, or they'll fall apart.
  • Use a very sharp knife to easily slice the brownies without squishing them.

FAQ

What is the secret to fudgy brownies?

Brownies made with more fat are fudgier. Add ingredients like extra butter, chocolate, oil, or eggs to create fudgy brownies.

Why did my brownies fall apart?

If you try to cut brownies before they're fully cooled, they'll break apart. Brownies need to cool completely to ensure they fully set.

How can you tell when fudgy brownies are done?

Fudgy brownies can be tricky. Even when they're perfectly baked, they can appear almost raw in the middle. The toothpick test is the easiest way to tell if they're done. Insert a toothpick into the brownies. If it comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs, the brownies are done.
