On no!!! It has happened again! I walked in the door after a day at work and realized I had no plans for supper. Even though I wish I was supermom, it just isn't reality. Time and time again, I find myself rushing to throw supper together. Sometimes it's a hit, sometimes it's a flop.
I am always creating, tweaking, and experimenting with recipes, trying to find something my entire family will love. This particular One-Pan Cheesy Kielbasa Pasta was a huge success. Based off of a family recipe that uses potatoes, all six members of our family couldn't get enough. Even though they love the original recipe, this mom likes how much faster pasta cooks. I can literally make this dish in just 20 minutes from start to finish.

Thanks for the recipe. I recommend cooking the noodles outside of the sauce so they cook fully through. I found this wasn't enough liquid to cook them well.
There have been a few times that we have made this recipe and experienced the same thing. We found that if you just add a bit more chicken broth and cook it a bit longer, the noodles are done perfectly. Hope this helps : )
I would recommend partially boiling the noodles beforehand. It took way longer for them to soften enough to eat and by that time everything was dried up, and the cheese was burning to the bottom of the pan. Good flavor though!
So sorry that happened. We have made this recipe according to the directions so many times and it turns out perfect. Hope next time is better.
didn't see uncooked pasta until too late....runny...any suggestions?
I am so sorry. For some reason, this comment just came through. My only suggestion would be to thicken the sauce with a cornstarch or flour mixture. However, because I have never done it, I am not sure how it will effect the flavor or texture of the dish.
Just made this for dinner tonight and it was great! Any suggestions on alternative ingredients to mix things up? (Like chicken or ground beef instead of sausage possibly?)
Suggestion: If you're sensitive to salt, use a reduced sodium chicken broth & half the salt. The cheese & the sausage have a good amount of salt already so those small tweaks made it perfect for us.
I am glad that you enjoyed it! Here are a few changes that we have done in the past:
- chicken, ground beef, steak
- pepper jack cheese
- beef broth

I did 32 oz chicken broth for a 1lb box of pasta and it came out perfect! Didn’t add all the broth at once just the 2 cups with 1/2 cup of milk first then as it cooked just incorporated one cup of chicken broth at a time! Delicious and simple!
I made this for dinner tonight with turkey kielbasa. I doubled the recipe for our family and everything cooked perfectly. I did end up adding a little more broth at the end to make sure the sauce was extra creamy. I also added some frozen peas, to make the meal sort of like a carbonara. Great recipe. Thanks!
I love your variations, and I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
I added some smoke paprika and I added a serving of Frozen Broccoli along with a 1/4 of white wine that rounded out the flavor!
Yum! Sounds like some delicious additions!
Yummy, this dish looks like my next favourite and I badly need to get this made for myself one fine day. Let me plan a dinner date with my wife
Our family loves it! I hope you enjoy also!
I have a kiddo that has a serious texture issue with onions. Has anyone replaced the onions with something else? Or just substituted for onion powder?
Obstacles that moms are constantly faced with! : ) I have never made it without onions, but I would think some onion powder would create a similar flavor.
Silly question perhaps?
Do you leave the lid off or cover the skillet when simmering for 15 min?
Thanks!
Not a silly question at all! I do leave the cover on while it simmers.
What a great recipe! I have to admit, I didn't think the sauce would be thick enough, but it was! I added some leftover broccoli, and we gobbled it up in one sitting. Thanks for sharing!
I am so glad that you enjoyed it! I love the versatility and always try to add something different. I haven't tried broccoli yet but definitely will now!
Can you make this ahead of time and cook it later in the day?
Because the recipe slowly cooks as you assemble it, it wouldn't work to put it all together ahead of time.
