Ninja Foodi Chicken
Can we all just agree that back in the day, the thought of cooking up an entire chicken just seemed daunting? As you can see, I said back in the day because it's really no longer an issue.
Once I discovered that my Ninja Foodi literally did all the work for me and in under 60 minutes of time, I was floored by how simple cooking a whole chicken could be. (Can I please have back all those hours of stress from years prior?!)
Seriously though. I can't tell you how I used to be so nervous about cooking a whole chicken. Maybe it was just in my head or maybe it was the years of watching my mom cook and cut up a chicken that I had a major mental block. But now? I have chicken on my meal planning radar at least once per week. It's really, really simple to do.
What is a Ninja Foodi?
It's only one of the best kitchen appliances, ever. It's power-packed with the ability to pressure cook, air fry, steam, roast, slow cook, and even dehydrate. (Whew, say that five times fast!)
I love being able to use it for just about all of my cooking needs and it's a total breeze in the kitchen, too. I can't tell you how many times this appliance has saved my behind when I've forgotten to make a plan for dinner!
Is purchasing a Ninja Foodi worth it?
Yes. Yes. Oh yes. I'm serious. It's so worth it. It's so fast and every single recipe that I've used it for comes out perfectly. I can't recommend it enough. I use it at least once or twice each week.
Now that you know why I'm crazy about this amazing appliance, let's review what you need to cook up a whole chicken in the Ninja Foodi.

Just gather up the list of ingredients below to get started. You'll be eating the most tender and juicy chicken in less than one hour.

How To Cook a Whole Chicken in the Pressure Cooker
Even though this is a super simple recipe for cooking chicken, make certain that you pay attention to the measurements and the cook time.
In your Ninja Foodi pressure pot, put water, 1 tsp onion powder, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp pepper, 1 tbsp parsley flakes. Stir together.
Put chicken into a water mixture.
Sprinkle remaining seasonings over top of chicken
Put the cover on the Ninja Foodi.
Pressure on HIGH for 28 minutes.
Allow natural release for 20 minutes, then quick release.
Let the chicken rest for 10 minutes before serving.
How do you know when chicken is cooked all the way through?
This is important. Super important. One of the most important details to pay attention to when you're cooking chicken. You never want to take the chance that you're eating chicken that isn't cooked all the way through, ever.
The best way to make certain that the chicken is fully cooked is to use a meat thermometer and make certain that the internal temperature is at least 165 degrees.
How do you check the internal temperature of chicken?
As mentioned above, a meat thermometer is going to be your best friend. But you do have to be careful about where you're checking the temperature. You don't want to check it near a bone as that will give off a false reading, and hotter than the temperature actually is.
Insert the meat thermometer into the meaty part of the chicken to get an accurate reading and make certain that it's away from the bone area.
How to store leftover Ninja Foodi chicken
Want to know the real reason why I love to cook up a whole chicken? (Besides the awesome flavor and taste?) It's because I LOVE LEFTOVERS. Cooking a Ninja Foodi whole chicken gives me meals for days and that is something that makes me extremely happy.
The easiest way to store leftover cooked chicken is to add it to a container with a lid and place it in the fridge. This will lock out the air and keep in the moisture.
Make certain that you let the chicken cool down all the way before storing it or you'll create moisture in the container that no one wants to have to deal with.
Can you freeze cooked chicken?
You bet! Another reason that cooking a whole chicken in the Ninja Foodi is amazing. I like to actually pull the chicken off the bones and freeze it that way so then I can just unthaw and enjoy or add it to other chicken recipes.
You can totally freeze the whole chicken as well, entirely up to you.
But make certain that you don't throw away the bones! You can boil the bones with water and create an amazing homemade chicken broth that is perfect for adding in veggies or just sipping when you're wanting nutrients or not feeling well.
Why is my pressure cooker chicken dry and tough?
More than likely, you overcooked the chicken OR you could have gotten the bad luck of having an old chicken from the store. Just be careful and follow the directions.
And if you do notice that your chicken is dry or overcooked, don't throw it away. Just use it for another herb-roasted chicken recipe where you can mix it with other ingredients. If this is your situation, try this Homemade Chicken Dumpling Soup recipe!
Are you ready to create a delicious chicken that everyone will love? The best part about roasting a whole chicken in the Ninja Foodi is that you can eat it as is or add it to so many other recipes. This is one of my go-to recipes because it's so versatile and delicious.
